Atwater Market Outdoor Food Court

This week I was looking for a creative, delicious, fast lunch spot on a fine summer’s day and decided to head to the Atwater Market’s outdoor food court located in the market’s northwest quadrant.

Normally I would make a beeline to the Satay Brother’s stall which is always buzzing with laughing patrons and blasting with tunes but this time I elected to try the ribs at Aylwin Barbecue and man, am I glad I did!!!

The menu is simple and features those long, succulent, grilled pork ribs that you might expect to find at a country fair or in the heart of Mississippi. Well, they are available right here and just down the street!

Served on a sheet of butcher’s wrap nestled in a paper plate basket, the presentation is basic but perfect givin the casual surroundings. Each order gets you 3 perfect ribs and their own dipping barbecue sauce for 12 bucks. We added sides of their cucumber salad smothered in a buttermilk dressing with hints of fresh dill ($4.50 each) along with a piece of miso cooked corn on the cob ($3.50) finished on the grill for that perfect barbecue look and taste. Hearty cups of homemade pink lemonade topped off our selections. Communal seating on solid and colourful park benches is the dining option here but, in the height of summer in Montreal, there is no other place that you would rather be!  Be prepared to make new friends as you inhale these ribs in a rather inelegant manner. After-all, we’re all in this together and loving it!
